Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training Course with Agnes and Faris

Develop the skills to teach yoga asana, while deepening your spiritual connection to yoga. You will establish a firm foundation of discipline that promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual growth. You will also build a strong base from which to teach others naturally and with confidence.

The Teacher Training Course (TTC) is a 10-Weekend intensive course. You will closely interact with a team of experienced and dedicated IKIGAI teachers, who have immersed themselves in the yogic lifestyle whilst living in the modern world.

The lead teachers in this training are: Agnes Chan and Faris Chan. There will also be other teachers involved for specific modules: Gianni Melwani (Founder) and Aymeric Vollant (Founder), as well as IKIGAI veteran teacher Arvind Singh. Please see Course Curriculum below.

This course is an open-level training suitable for students who want to understand more about yoga, specifically related to vinyasa flows and sequencing to take your practice to the next level. It is also for students who have already completed a 200Hr training in the past and wish to refresh their knowledge and upgrade their practice.

It is also important to note that although upon completion of the course you will become a certified teacher, taking a yoga teacher training course is NOT ONLY for those who want to become teachers. It is a transformative experience for anyone who wants to understand the true meaning of yoga, health and happiness!

The curriculum is extensive and covers both theory and practice. Devotional practices, traditional to India, are an integral part of the course.

Agnes is one of my favorite teachers at Ikigai! She has really good drills that prepare you into deep poses. I have lower back compression easily due to thoracic spine tightness but it never happens with Agnes - she has really good hands on adjustments. You can definitely count on her and improvements are almost guaranteed if you go to her classes regularly!

  • Agnes was always a sports enthusiast from a young age, having been athletic and active in different kind of sports especially in track & field, she started practising yoga in 2014 to incorporate a stretching and conditioning component into her workout plan. Agnes was mesmerised by how yoga brought her mind of wondering to one of peace after trying her first yoga class at a gym that she joined. Since then, her studies and practices in this ancient discipline have led her to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

It was in 2016 that Agnes decided to deepen her practices and to train to become a yoga teacher to share the benefits of movement and healing through yoga. She approached Dr. Yogananth Andiappan for her first Hatha Yoga Teacher Training. Soon after, shestarted teaching at different yoga studios. Being Inspired by the connection to her students, she continued her commitment to grow her path of yogic discovery with the guidance of Clayton Horton. Clayton has been her main teacher and guided her with patience ever since she started to practice Ashtanga. Clayton has inspired her to understand this ancient tradition and to teach with integrity and compassion. She has completed 200 hours Ashtanga Teacher Training with Clayton in May 2021. With the great passion Agnes has with Ashtanga Yoga, Agnes decided to pursuit deeper and went to Mysore, the source of Ashtanga to practice with R. Sharath Jois, lineage holder (paramaguru) of Ashtanga Yoga, in the tradition of his grandfather K. Pattabhi Jois for two months to seek deeper into the practice and that is the trip that changed her life and perspective in her yoga journey. Agnes wishes to continue going back to the source to Mysore to go deeper into the practice.

Agnes’s classes are dynamic, energetic and fun. Her teaching approach is energising yet grounding and challenging yet compassionate. She is dedicated practitioner of Ashtanga practice under Clayton Horton’s tutelage and she believes that with consistency, devotion and dedication, physical and mental growth will come long on and off the mat. She aims to impart on her students the knowledge and insights she has received from her teachers. Agnes will continue to motivate and connect with students in their quests for fitness and wellness through intention, meditation, pranayama and asana practice, to share the gift of yoga with others, to offer the students her gratitude and devotional service.

  • “Through empowering yoga, I aspire to be your wellness coach to improve every day.”

Faris began her yoga journey at 23, committing to being the most empowered, loving, and balanced version of herself. She was born and raised in Hong Kong, now a mother to four beautiful kids and a wife to a wonderful husband. She has a wild heart that loves to explore and is happiest with sand beneath her feet. She has a burning desire to spread my love, dedication, and passion for yoga everywhere I go.

She have an artistic soul and enjoy spending time creatively learning. Health is her priority and sustainability is her undertaking.

Her classes are dynamic, energetic and challenging yet rewarding. She is dedicated practitioner of Ashtanga practice under Clayton Horton’s tutelage and she believes that with consistency, devotion and dedication, physical and mental growth will come long on and off the mat.

  • Yes! Firstly Yoga is more than just the physical poses. However due to the way the course is designed, you will learn and improve along the journey. It is still suggested that a student should have a basic level of practice before joining the training instead of being a complete beginner. This will lead to a much faster improvement during the course.

Students attending the training do not need to have an advanced practice. Generally many students were unable to perform advanced poses before starting a TTC but achieved them during the course.

  • Students with a few months of practice who wants to deepen their understanding of Yoga should take this training. A group class setting does not give students the chance to explore, clear doubts, ask questions, practice in much more detail - which a TTC does. If you are interested in the history, philosophy and ethics; teaching methodology; anatomy and physiology; techniques, training, and practice of Yoga, it’s time to embark on your TTC journey!

  • This training will be conducted in English. The study manual is also in English. However our IKIGAI staff team is always there to help should you need any further understanding or translation.
